- It was a real Shuffle-scuffle!
- 81-year Old charged with Battery
Herbert Hayden- 81
Herbert Hayden, 81, a resident of St. Petersburg, got in an altercation at the Pinellas Park senior center over a game of shuffleboard and was charged with battery. Police allege Hayden struck another man, and that both of their sticks, or cues, as they are known amongst shufflers, were damaged. Unfortunately for prosecutors, officers indicate the “weapons” were not seized for evidence. I do not know how old the victim was, but if he is over 65, Mr. Hayden could potentially be facing a felony for battery on a senior citizen. I have seen prosecutors charge the felony on other senior citizens, but hopefully cooler heads will prevail.
This is the first charge I have seen using a shuffleboard cue as a weapon! #weirdbattery #graymenace

Police allege Chad and Joey Mudd gave their 13 and 14-year-old daughters drugs as a “bargaining tool” to entice them to do chores and go to school. Apparently, marijuana and even cocaine were involved. They face Child Abuse charges, and the father also faces cocaine possession, they have been released from the St. Petersburg jail on bond.
And now I have Primus in my head…
Cop Tackles Unruly Beachgoer, from video by Darrell Tate
Spring breaker Darrell Tate caught some dramatic video this weekend on St. Pete beach, as two spring breakers were violently arrested by a cop. The video doesn’t show what initiated the contact by the deputy, but it does show both young men resisting. The officer does not draw a weapon, using only his hands, and is able to subdue both of the suspects. They have both been charged with battery on a law enforcement officer, a felony.
I’m not big into wrestling, but apparently the deputy’s move is called a ‘choke slam’. He’s a big dude. The whole experience must have been scary for the cop, in spite of his size. Don’t fight cops, kids.
Bryan Zuniga mug
Bryan Zuniga ran from the cops. He turned up later at the hospital, with multiple puncture wounds, and explained that he’d been bitten by a gator. Kids… it’s a bad idea to run from the cops. It’s an even worse idea to do so in Florida where the wildlife comes equipped with big teeth!
Zuniga got lucky, in spite of the nasty injuries you can see in his picture. Another man in Miami-Dade county was killed by a gator when he fled cops.
