New Details on the Naples Dog Sex Case

Miranda Johns

Yesterday we reported that 21-year-old Miranda Johns was arrested for multiple counts of sex acts with two dogs. More details have emerged in the case. The News-Press reports that the videos provided to deputies depict Ms. Johns having oral sex with two pet dogs. Johns had accused the man of sexual battery, and when they interviewed him, he denied the battery and showed them videos she had sent him of the bestial acts.

Let’s break this down… woman commits criminal sexual acts with two dogs. She records said criminal acts. She sends the recordings to a man. She later accuses the man of a criminal act. Man proceeds to show the videos to the cops. Woman is arrested. According to the Naples Daily News, she has sent the images to the man at his request. Oops. (NDN also reports that they were photos, not videos, though their headline says recording).

There’s no word on who owns the dogs, or their condition… though there is no indication they were harmed…

Miranda Johns

21-year-old Naples resident Miranda Johns has been arrested for 3 counts of illegal sexual contact with animals. Apparently, she recorded herself having sex with two dogs, and sent the videos to her boyfriend. He reported he when the cops were called out to a domestic disturbance. CCSO reports they have recovered multiple videos. Johns bonded out, her arraignment is set for April 13.

No more details have been released at this time, and while I’m morbidly curious… I really don’t want to know!

Just Don’t Kick Animals, OK?

A Naples man was arrested last week for animal cruelty for kicking a cormorant on the Naples Pier. The bird took one of his fish, and he became enraged, and kicked it really hard. Apparently, the bird had substantial injuries after the incident, and is being treated by a rescue shelter. The man faces a felony charge for animal abuse.

It should go without saying… but I’ll say it, don’t hurt animals…

Collier Man Charged for Breeding Alligators

Charles Edwards

It is illegal in Florida to possess an Alligator. Charles Edwards, aka “Half-Breed”, a Collier County resident, was caught with a dozen baby gators being held in an aquarium under his apartment, in a storage area. Investigators think he may have been trying to sell them. He is still sitting in jail, as he has not been able to post bond. Possession of an alligator is a felony charge in Florida. The State of Florida has chosen to give heightened protection to gators, even though their numbers have rebounded, and are no longer endangered. Regardless of your opinion of the policy, gators are protected under Florida law.

  • James Gill Facing Felony

James Gill, of Naples

James Gill, 45, of Naples caught an alligator in his backyard, and thought it would be cool to keep it as a pet. He put the young gator in a fish tank in his 3-year-old son’s room. That’s extremely dangerous, even little gators have 80 sharp teeth. FWC served a warrant, and charged him with a felony for illegal possession of an alligator. Gill reportedly told officers that it was stupid that it was a felony, because there are millions of them. He may be right, but it’s still against the law, and extremely dangerous.

Crazy Florida Keeps Acting Crazy

Naked Guy from NAPLES

Naked Guy from NAPLES

The downside of being busy and not getting to keep up with the blog the past few weeks, is that craziness, in particular that Hiaasen-style only-in-Florida craziness endemic to the Sunshine State, has provided so many incidents that I can’t keep up. Just in the news today, a naked man tackled an old guy in Naples. Didn’t rob him, nothing sexual. Some drunk guy just got naked and tackled an old guy.  He got himself a felony for Battery on a Person over 65. Just another day in Florida…

Human Pterodactyl from Legoland

Human Pterodactyl from Legoland

That’s not as bad as the guy in Polk County, who ran around Legoland’s water park claiming to be a Pterodactyl, squawking like a giant flying dinosaur. He’s also a SW Florida original, visiting the park from Port Charlotte. He was also drunk. Richard Campagna managed to earn himself a felony for Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, for splashing the cop that tried to catch him in the Lazy River, plus disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, etc.

Accused Molester Raymond Frolander

Accused Molester Raymond Frolander

National news covered the father who beat up another man that he says he walked in on sexually abusing his son. This is absolutely not a humorous story, but dad’s stark honesty is amazing.  He made no apologies for rearranging the guy’s face: when the cops asked if he had used a weapon, he said no, just his fists and his foot, and says he would have killed him but for his son’s pleas for mercy. He told the dispatcher, “He is nice and knocked out on the floor for you, I dragged him into the living room,’ the father said. ‘Send an ambulance. He is going to need one.” The cops didn’t begrudge him for his actions, and have not charged him with anything. The alleged accuser, Raymond Frolander, 18, apparently admitted that he had been abusing the boy for several years. The dad could be in trouble for beating the abuser, as discovery of abuse is not a defense to the crime of battery: legally Defense of Others is a defense, but it is only valid while the danger is imminent. And you would be hard pressed to find a law enforcement agency that would want to prosecute under those circumstances.

Michael Doster

Michael Doster

However, the craziest story out of Florida in the past week is the man who’s wife died after confronting him over a sexual encounter on a nude beach the other day. Apparently, Pamela Doster caught Michael Doster and another man giving each other oral sex, which understandably did not sit well with her. After that, a bizarre confrontation ensued, that may have involved him striking her and knocking her off their jet ski several times. He gave a statement to police that she refused to get back on the jet ski, and that he called 911, who sent officers out to the sand bar to collect her. She was taken to the hospital and later died, though the cause is unclear. He has been arrested for domestic battery, but could end up facing a murder charge if he actions directly led to her death. It will be interesting to see if there was something intervening that caused her death, or if he caused it, whether he will be charged with manslaughter or murder. It’s a bizarre case that won’t be resolved for a while, though authorities are calling him a suspect in her death. Police are also looking to speak with the other man from the sexual encounter. It also occurred in Manatee County, which just had another public sex situation in the news. Only in Florida…

Mesac Damas May Be Incompetent to Stand Trial

Mesac Damas mug shot

The north Naples man accused of slitting the throats of his wife and 5 children has been found by two doctors to be incompetent to stand trial. The judge will have to enter an order regarding competence, but since both experts are in agreement, on can anticipate the judge will follow their recommendations. This doesn’t mean he has been acquitted, but the case will be held in abeyance until such time as he is competent to stand trial. Though he was previously found to be competent to stand trial, it is not unheard of for someone’s mental condition to degrade over time. He will continue to be held in custody, and the state will attempt to treat his mental illness to restore him to competence so he can be tried in the case.
