After a week of jury selection and 3 days of evidence presentation, Andrew Castor has been found guilty of first degree murder of his neighbor. He had admitted to the stabbing, but claimed insanity at trial. The state is seeking the death penalty, and will be seeking a recommendation from the jury.
UPDATE: He was sentenced to life in prison, with a recommendation that he receive mental health counseling while incarcerated. I can’t tell from the record if the state did seek the death penalty, as media reports had earlier indicated. The life sentence is mandatory, and he will not be eligible for parole. He has filed an appeal.
